Community Organizing Task Force

The Task Force on Community Organizing was established by Executive Order 2025-01-CTH to promote and support community organizing for the betterment of Cherokee Nation, our citizens, and our communities. Through their work, the Task Force strived to provide recommendations intended to enhance the quality of life in Cherokee communities and to revitalize and sustain cultural lifeways.

The Task Force was charged with producing a report to evaluate current programming and gather critical information to guide future efforts. This report examines the current state of community organizing within the Cherokee Nation, identifies barriers, and explores strategies for improvement.

To inform its findings, the Task Force conducted surveys targeting Cherokee Nation citizens, members of Cherokee Nation Community Organizations, elected officials, and Cherokee Nation Community and Cultural Outreach staff. The resulting report summarizes survey data and offers recommendations to address common challenges, remove barriers, and strengthen support for community organizing, ultimately expanding opportunities and reinforcing the Cherokee Nation’s commitment to building and sustaining thriving, culturally centered communities.
