Dr. Corey Bunch is a distinguished leader and lifelong educator, currently serving as Chief of Staff for the Cherokee Nation. Appointed to this esteemed role in 2021, Dr. Bunch brings over two decades of experience in educational leadership and community service, with a career deeply rooted in advancing opportunities for Cherokee citizens.
A proud member of the Deer Clan and a descendant of Nanyehi (Nancy Ward), Dr. Bunch has held numerous leadership positions within the Cherokee Nation and Cherokee Nation Businesses, including Deputy Director of Education Services and Executive Director of Cherokee Nation Education Services. His extensive background spans roles as a teacher, principal, superintendent, and administrator, making him a pivotal figure in shaping education across the reservation.
Beyond his professional achievements, Dr. Bunch is a passionate advocate for community development. He serves on the Oklahoma Advisory Council on Indian Education, the Haskell National Board of Regents, and the Board of Trustees for the Oklahoma Foundation for Excellence. He also played a foundational role in establishing the Boys and Girls Club of Adair County, where he served as its first Chief Volunteer Officer.
Dr. Bunch holds a bachelor’s degree in education and a master’s in school administration from Northeastern State University, along with a doctorate in educational leadership from Arkansas State University. He and his wife Kimberly reside in Tahlequah, the capital of the Cherokee Nation, where they enjoy spending time with their four children and two grandchildren.
