Public Health and Wellness (PHW) Merit Scholarship

The purpose of the Public Health and Wellness (PHW) Merit Scholarship is to provide financial assistance to Cherokee Nation citizens pursuing college degrees in healthcare or other workforce training programs identified as priorities under the Public Health and Wellness Fund Act, and to support their readiness to contribute to and grow within the Cherokee Nation reservation labor market. There are no residency restrictions for this scholarship.

Deadline: June 30, 2026 5 P.M. CST

Eligibility:

  • Must be a Cherokee Nation citizen.
  • Must be a full-time student.
  • Must be declared as an approved major in healthcare or related field.
  • Must submit transcripts with final grades at the end of each semester.
  • Must maintain a 3.0 GPA.
  • Must show interest in working in the Cherokee Nation reservation’s labor workforce after graduation.
  • Must complete application annually and submit other required documentation per semester.
  • Must have completed 60 college hours or have a combination of some college hours and relevant workplace experience and/or relevant professional licenses or certifications.

Scholarship Award:

Based upon available funding at a limited rate. Funding will be sent to student’s institution and can be used for the following: 

  • Tuition
  • Books
  • Fees
  • Required Equipment
  • Pre-Test, Post Test, License Fees
