Tanya Johnson

Tanya Johnson is a Cherokee Nation citizen who has worked for the Tribe, in multiple capacities, since February 2006. She is the Director of Cherokee Nation's Office of Grant Services. She is an experienced Grant Professional and Accountant with a demonstrated history of working in the tribal government industry. She received her Master of Business Administration in 2007 from Northeastern State University. She earned her credentials as a Certified Government Financial Manager® in August of 2017, a Certified Grant Writer® in August of 2017, a Certified Grants Management Specialist in December of 2018, a Grant Professional Certified in September of 2019 and two Grants Management Certificates in April and July of 2013.

Tanya grew up in Welling where she still lives surrounded by family and they are still the center of her world. She is a stalwart advocate for Cherokee Language Preservation and providing our communities with services necessary to build capacity both as communities and as individuals. In her current role as Grant Services Director, she provides oversight of the hundreds of grant applications and all the awards of the Tribe resulting in many services provided for our tribal citizens.

In her spare time she serves as a Peer Reviewer on grant application panels for multiple federal agencies including the Department of Education, Department of Justice, and the Department of Health and Human Services for the Administration for Native Americans to further her work for her community and Cherokee Nation.
