Vocational Rehabilitation

The Cherokee Nation Vocational Rehabilitation Program began in 1992 as the first continuous Tribal Vocational Rehabilitation program in the state of Oklahoma. It is a discretionary grant with a five year grant cycle. Vocational Rehabilitation's fiscal year is from October 1 to September 30.

The Vocational Rehabilitation program provided assistance to 197 individuals last year. Last year, Vocational Rehabilitation received a small grant to provide job placement services to clients. Individuals must be citizens of a federally-recognized tribe residing within the Cherokee Nation's Tribal Jurisdictional Service Area, have a mental or physical disability that results in a substantial impediment to employment, be able to benefit in terms of employment outcome from CNVR services and require CNVR services to prepare for, enter in or retain gainful employment.

Eligibility Criteria:

1. A citizen of a federally-recognized tribe
2. Reside within Cherokee Nation boundaries
3. Have a mental or physical disability which results in a substantial impediment to employment
4. Can benefit in terms of an employment outcome from CNVR services and require CNVR services to prepare for entering into or retaining gainful employment.
