, Okla. — The Cherokee Nation donated $6,000 to the Rogers County Elder Day Care Center recently to help cover construction costs for the center’s expansion.
Cherokee Nation Principal Chief Bill John Baker, Secretary of State Chuck Hoskin Jr. and Tribal Councilor Keith Austin presented the check to Rogers County Elder Day Care Center Executive Director Wanda Inman, board members and clients of the center.
“I am so happy we are able to assist in helping prepare the new facility for the clients of the Rogers County Elder Day Care Center,” Austin said. “The staff at the center has done an amazing job serving the needs of our communities with very limited resources and space. They will finally have the space their clients deserve.”
Inman said the tribe’s donation will help reduce the construction debt while freeing up resources for other services.
“This donation means a lot to us, because it enables us to help offset some of the construction costs of our new, larger space,” Inman said. “I’m thrilled that this money will help reduce construction debt and will go toward serving more people in Rogers County.”
The tribe donated the money from its special projects fund.
“The Rogers County Elder Day Care Center provides a great service to the community,” Hoskin said. “I commend Tribal Councilor Keith Austin for identifying such a great partner that values our elders and wants to provide them with the best service possible.”
Projects funded through the special projects fund are selected by Tribal Council and Chief Baker’s office and allow the tribe to partner with communities and organizations on projects that benefit both Cherokee Nation citizens and non-Cherokees alike.
