Cherokee Nation Mourns Loss of Registrar Lela Ummerteskee

Tahlequah, OK -- Principal Chief Bill John Baker today announced the passing of long-time Cherokee Nation employee and Tribal Registrar Lela Ummerteskee.

Chief Baker said in a statement released this afternoon, "It is with great sadness that we announce the death of the Cherokee Nation’s Registrar, Lela Ummerteskee. With more than 33 years of service to the Tribe, Lela dedicated her career to helping the Cherokee people and she will truly be missed. I ask that you all keep her loved ones in your prayers through this difficult time."

Funeral arrangements are pending.
