TAHLEQUAH, Okla. — Calling all Cherokee youth! The Cherokee National Youth Choir is holding auditions for the 2012 choir on Tuesday, Jan. 3 in Tahlequah at the Cherokee Nation W.W. Keeler Complex, 17675 S. Muskogee Ave. Auditions are by appointment only and will be held in the tribal council chambers.
The award-winning Cherokee National Youth Choir provides members the opportunity to sing in many different venues, ranging from national events to holiday shows. Cherokee Nation started the choir in 2000 as a way to keep Cherokee youth interested in history, culture and language. The group performs traditional songs in the Cherokee language and has recorded numerous CDs.
To qualify, participants must be an enrolled Cherokee Nation citizen between seventh and 11th -grade in good standing. Applicants must bring a letter of recommendation from their school along with a photocopy of their tribal membership card to the audition.
