Cherokee Nation To Sponsor Financial Planning Meetings
TAHLEQUAH, Okla. –In honor of Congress designating April as “financial literacy month,” the Cherokee Nation’s SEED Program will observe “Jumpstart Your Money” week April 24-29 with two informational financial educational meetings.
The purpose of “Jumpstart Your Money” events is to raise awareness among consumers, policymakers, employers, educators and social service providers of the importance of financial education to individuals and to the state of Oklahoma; to provide consumers with a range of high-quality, targeted financial education events; and to demonstrate to organizations the range of financial education activities that they can implement to further their specific objectives.
The SEED Program will host a “Saving and Investing: Your Money at Work” meeting on Monday, April 24, from 6 to 8 p.m. in the O-Si-Yo training room, located in the Tsa-La-Gi Office Building at the Tribal Complex south of Tahlequah. The event is free and open to the public.
On Friday, April 28, the same meeting will be offered from 11 a.m. to noon in the Sequoyah High School library. This session is open only to SEED or Youth IDA students.
The week is rounded out by two related events. On Tuesday, April 25, the American Bankers Association hosts “Teach Children to Save” events; and “Take our Daughters and Sons to Work” day is celebrated on Thursday, April 27, around the nation.
