HARD ROCK HOTEL HOLDINGS, LLC AND HRHH IP, LLC SIGN LICENSE AGREEMENT WITH CHEROKEE NATION ENTERPRISES TO BRAND EXPANDED FACILITY AS HARD ROCK CASINO

Hard Rock Hotel Holdings, LLC and HRHH IP, LLC today entered into a license agreement with Cherokee Nation Enterprises, LLC that, pending review of the National Indian Gaming Commission, will enable Cherokee Nation Enterprises to brand its expanded hotel and casino near Tulsa, Oklahoma under the Hard Rock Casino name.

Chief Declares November as Diabetes Awareness Month

Diabetes has reached epidemic proportions among Native Americans and complications from diabetes are major causes of death and health problems in most Native American populations. Because of this, Cherokee Nation Principal Chief Chad Smith has declared November as Diabetes Awareness Month in the Cherokee Nation.

Cherokee Nation Announces Language Bowl Winners
November 14, 2008
Several area schools showed off their knowledge and understanding of the Cherokee language, at the Cherokee Language Bowl held by the tribe recently. Thirty-three teams competed in the annual competition coordinated by Cherokee Nation’s Johnson O’Malley (JOM) program.

The Legislative Branch consists of the 15-member Tribal Council elected to represent nine districts of the Cherokee Nation. The Tribal Council initiates legislation and conducts other business which will further the interests of the Cherokee Nation and its membership. The other business which will further the interests of the Cherokee Nation and its membership. The Deputy Chief presides over the Council as its president. Tribal Council terms are four years.

Cultural Tidbits
After European contact, the Cherokee government consisted of a consortium of towns. Basically, the Cherokees lived in small stockade towns in the lower Appalachains. A red government and a white government system existed; in times of war, the red government was in charge, and in times of peace, the white government and the priests were in charge.
