In October of 2014, Cherokee Nation received 38 bison from the Badlands National Park of South Dakota and 12 more from the Theodore Roosevelt National Park in North Dakota. Another 40 bison were received from the Badlands October 2015. The herd is located on Kenwood Unit 12 in Delaware County.Only 210 acres of the 1,127 acre tract are being utilized at this time but will expand to include an additional 335 acres for herd growth.
Construction of the corrals is underway and expected to be complete in 2016. Natural Resources offers tours to the public with advance notice for scheduling.
