Career Services

The mission of the Career Services Group is to develop and encourage individuals to achieve and maintain work habits and skills that promote employability and self-sufficiency through programs that encompass education, training, rehabilitation, and supportive services.

Vocational and Educational Programs

Career Services provides a multitude of programs to assist individuals with their educational and vocational training needs. In addition to programs for the general public, there are programs specific to housing residents, individuals with disabilities, and youth. We offer several in-house training programs as well as assistance to those who are enrolled in vocational training or Associate of Applied Arts or Applied Science degree programs.

Employment Programs

The goal of Career Services is jobs. We provide several employment services that assist individuals in attaining and retaining unsubsidized employment that leads to self-sufficiency. We have programs that can assist you in acquiring work experience, receive job specific training on the job, and provide you with assistance in you job search.

Youth Programs

Career Services has educational, vocational, leadership and employment programs for youth aged 14-24, both summer specific and year round.

Assessments and Certifications

Career Services can assist you in assessing your skills and interests, leading to good career choices. We utilize the TABE test for literacy and math skills, the Oklahoma Career Information System for career exploration, WorkKeys for the career readiness certificate, and we provide GED testing.

Programs for Businesses and Employers

Career Services works with businesses and employers to ensure their workforce needs are met. From certification as an Indian owned and operated business to assistance in training new workers, Career Services has programs that can assist your business.

Students study at their own paces and receive individualized and whole group instruction in Basic Skills, GED Preparation and Testing, and Basic Computer Skills.
Building Trades Program This Program provides training in basic building trades. Participants learn such occupations as carpentry, masonry, and electrical work.
These programs provide financial assistance to students for tuition, fees, and books. Students may be enrolled in a variety of occupational or technical trades and Associate of Applied Arts, or Applied Science.
Career Tech Grant is for Cherokee Nation tribal members who need assistance to pay tuition. These grants may be used for a variety of occupational or technical trades and Associate of Applied Arts, or Applied Science degrees.
The Direct Employment Program provides financial assistance for persons who have located employment at least 50 miles from their residence and who need assistance to access that employment.
Recruitment and training for individuals interested in working for the US Forest Service as a firefighter.
The NACTEP program provides vocational training opportunities in Business Technology, Child Care Occupations and Medical Coding.
This program trains individuals in occupational trades in the public and private sector.
The Summer Youth Employment Program is for youth age 14 through 21, residing within the 14 county jurisdictional areas. Youth are placed in profit and non-profit organizations in the service are of the Cherokee Nation.
TERO monitors and enforces the Cherokee Nation Tribal TERO Ordinance to ensure employment rights are protected.
The goal of the Youth Leadership Intern Program is to provide participants an opportunity to become familiar with the Cherokee Nation Tribal government and administrative functions.
The Cherokee Nation Vocational Rehabilitation Program assists with the cost of training/retraining, for American Indians with disabilities, to acquire the skills needed to find or maintain gainful employment.
Work Experience is a temporary or part-time assignment. This program encourages individuals to develop good work habits and basic work skills, which will promote employability.

Educational, vocational, and employment services for young adults aged 16-24. May include acquiring a GED or High School Diploma.
Testing for the career readiness certificate through the State of Oklahoma Department of Commerce.
TABE testing for reading and math levels; OKCIS assessment for career interests with information on educational/training requirements and labor force outlooks.
A database of potential employees with a listing of skills and experience.
Assistance in recruiting potential employees.
Educational, vocational, and employment services for young adults aged 16-24. May include acquiring a GED or High School Diploma.
