Paramedic life-support ambulance service is the most visible
aspect of the Cherokee Nation Emergency Medical Services program, but it is
certainly not the only service provided by this staff of highly skilled
professionals. In the midst of
unforeseeable disaster, our EMS program is prepared to reach
out as needed to provide relief, rescue and the critical incident stress
management associated with emergency services.
Because our EMS program was built with Indian health care funding over a
period of several years, it has been developed to meet the particular
needs of this geographic/jurisdictional area. Oklahoma, unlike some more
remote and isolated Indian Health Service areas, is also served by a
number of private and other public EMS programs, and Cherokee Nation
coordinates responses with these entities. Growth of the Cherokee Nation
EMS program has been directed toward advanced training of our personnel,
purchasing the most effective equipment available; and construction of a
new facility which will allow our operations to expand, offering the
best possible EMS/rescue service and training
opportunities for area
residents.
Cherokee Nation Emergency Medical Service was one of two agencies in
Cherokee county that originally provided personnel to staff the 911
Center. The commitment to the 911 center will continue, as will our
commitment to the citizens of the Cherokee Nation Tribal Jurisdictional
Service Area.
Classes are offered routinely by the training
program
throughout
the 14-county area and can be scheduled with sufficient participation
indicated.
