Cherokee Nation Funds Community Building for Eucha Residents

JAY, OK — Construction has started on a community building for residents of Eucha, thanks to an $87,000 dollar contribution from the Cherokee Nation.

The building will be used for community events such as birthday parties, reunions and will act as a shelter to residents during a time of crisis.

“This project is one of the best examples of a Cherokee community working together for the better good of the community,” said Don Greenfeather, Cherokee Nation Community Development Director.

Community Building projects were established to provide a place for Cherokee communities to have an establishment for tribal and community activities. The program is provided by the Cherokee Nation Community Services Department as a way to strengthen Cherokee communities and promote the culture of the Cherokee Nation.

Funding for the community building projects is provided by the tribe and the labor is provided by the community.

John Campbell, of the Eucha Volunteer Fire Department, was among the residents who helped lay the foundation for the community building and believes that the site will be appreciated and utilized by the community.

“The community building will serve many purposes within the community,” said Campbell. “We appreciate the funding from the Cherokee Nation and the service this building will provide for our area.”
