Tribe to Host Downtown Tree Lighting Ceremony
Cherokee Nation Courthouse Square is the place to be in downtown Tahlequah on Dec. 4 for a special holiday lights-on ceremony at dusk.
TAHLEQUAH, Okla. — Music, fellowship and refreshments are among the highlights planned for the tribe’s holiday tree lighting program on the Cherokee Nation Courthouse Square in downtown Tahlequah on Friday, Dec. 4.
Tribal officials will help get the holiday season into full swing as the historic square is lit with thousands of lights. The program kicks off at 5:30 p.m. with snacks and cozy soft drinks such as hot cider and hot cocoa. Holiday songs performed by the award-winning Cherokee National Immersion school students will set the mood for the tree lighting. Cherokee Nation Principal Chief Chad Smith will present a special welcome message to visitors on the square, with the official lighting taking place at 6:15 p.m.
The event is free and open to the public.
