Cherokee Casinos collecting coats for children and the elderly this winter

TAHLEQUAH, Okla. – Cherokee Casinos Tahlequah and Fort Gibson are pitching in to help keep people warm this winter. Both casinos are appealing to the community to bring new and slightly used jackets and coats in children’s and adult sizes to the casinos for the “Out with the old, in with the new” coat drive taking place through December. The casinos are hoping to collect a jacket or coat to keep every child and elder from two very special Cherokee Nation programs warm this winter.
Recipients of the coat drive are children in the Cherokee Nation Indian Child Welfare program and senior citizens in the Cherokee Elder Care program.
The drive starts Dec. 1 and runs through Dec. 31. In return for donating, guests at both locations will receive a new long-sleeved holiday T-shirt and a free holiday cookie from Cherokee Casino Tahlequah’s River City Café.
“This is something our employees at Tahlequah and Fort Gibson took upon themselves to do for the community,” said David Stewart, CEO of Cherokee Nation Enterprises, which operates Cherokee Casinos. “Our employees jump at the chance to get involved in their communities and help local citizens. They are some of the best community partners and volunteers I’ve seen. I can’t wait to see how many jackets and coats are collected from the drive,”
Guests are asked to drop off the items at the casino’s Player’s Club desk in exchange for a free T-shirt and a voucher for a free cookie from the River City Café. Guests must have a casino Player’s Club card to participate. Player’s Club membership is free. Guests may receive only one T-shirt per person during the jacket drive promotion.
The jackets will be dry cleaned and donated to the Cherokee Nation Indian Child Welfare program and the Cherokee Nation Elder Care program at the beginning of January.
Cherokee Casinos Tahlequah and Fort Gibson are also participating in the Cherokee Nation Angel Tree program this month by helping fulfill 500 angels’ needs this holiday season.
