Cherokee Nation taking applications for Trail of Tears Awards

TAHLEQUAH, Okla. —  High school seniors and eighth-graders who are Cherokee and living within the tribe’s 14-county jurisdiction still have until April 1 to apply for Cherokee Nation Trail of Tears Awards. Students can be recognized with certificates and gift cards in the areas of academics, citizenship, civic organizations, Cherokee culture, fine arts, school participation and team sports. For more than two decades the Cherokee Nation has recognized outstanding Cherokee student achievements and encouraged higher education.

To qualify, students must have a minimum 3.5 GPA on an unweighted scale and submit an essay. For more information, call Patrick Hill in education services at (918) 207-3919 or 800-256-0671 ext. 3919.
