Cherokee Nation Dental Program Recognized for Excellence At Annual Conference

SALLISAW- The Cherokee Nation Dental Program was recently recognized for Excellence at the Annual Oklahoma City Area Dental Conference held in Oklahoma City.

The Redbird Smith Health Center Dental Clinic in Sallisaw, under the supervision of Dr. Kyle Catron, received the "Outstanding Performance in Clinical Productivity" award which measures the overall business of dental practice by measuring the total number of visits per dentist, total number of visits per operatory, etc.

"This is the second year in a row that Dr. Catron and his staff have received this award. I am not aware of any other clinic being able to do that," said Dr. Robert Partak, DDS, Cherokee Nation dental advisor. "This is a major accomplishment for them."

Sandra L. Ferguson, dental hygienist at the Wilma P. Mankiller Health Center, was also honored with the "Oklahoma Area Dental Hygienist of the Year" award. Ferguson was recognized for her work providing direct patient care, clinical prevention programs, community involvement, and her service on several committees.

Ferguson, who is also a Commissioned Corp Officer with the United States Public Health Service, also received the "U.S. Public Health Service Citation" award for exemplary performance of duty. Ferguson received this award for her involvement with projects that help Indian Health Services and Tribal programs nationwide to increase access to patients needing periodontal disease preventive care.

"Sandy is no doubt a highly recognized authority in the field of Dental Hygiene and it is a real privilege to have someone of her caliber on our dental team," said Partak. "I am proud of all the Cherokee Nation dental staff for the work they are doing. It really takes a collaborative effort on everyone's part to provide the best dental care possible to patients who seek care at the clinics."
