Cherokee Nation donates $56,000 to community organizations

TAHLEQUAH, Okla. — The Cherokee Nation donated $56,000 on Monday to four community organizations.

Cherokee Nation Principal Chief Bill John Baker and Deputy Chief S. Joe Crittenden presented checks to the following:

$25,000 to Special Olympics of Oklahoma to help with travel and equipment expenses for the athletes

$16,000 to Delaware County Children’s Special Advocacy Network to aid the organization’s mission of minimizing the trauma of child victims during the investigation and prosecution of child abuse cases

$10,000 to the Friends of Murrell Home to help with routine maintenance and upkeep of the Murrell Home museum in Tahlequah

$5,000 to Cherokee Baptist Choir to help with fuel costs and other travel expenses
