Cherokee Nation Tribal Councilor Don Garvin wins run-off election.

TAHLEQUAH, Okla. — Cherokee Nation Tribal Council incumbent Don Garvin retains his seat after winning the District 4 run-off race against challenger Mike Dobbins.

The unofficial results showed Garvin with 352 votes, or 50.6 percent, to Dobbins’ 344 votes, or 49.4 percent.

Nearly 700 of the eligible 2,496 Cherokee Nation citizens in District 4, including absentee voters, cast their ballots July 27 to determine who should help lead the tribe for the next four years. District 4 includes parts of Muskogee and McIntosh counties, according to the new 15-district map passed by the Tribal Council in 2012. Results are expected to be certified by July 30.

The inauguration ceremony for Garvin and the other eight Tribal Councilors elected on June 22 will be held at 2 p.m., Aug. 14 at the Place Where They Play on Sequoyah Schools’ campus in Tahlequah.
