TAHLEQUAH, Okla. — The Cherokee Nation Early Childhood Unit is accepting applications for the Head Start (3 to 4 years old) and Early Head Start (6 weeks to 3 years old) programs. Applicants must live within the 14-county tribal jurisdiction.
Applications can be obtained at all Cherokee Nation Head Start centers or by visiting the education section of www.cherokee.org.
Copies of the following documents must be submitted with the application:
Certificate of Degree of Indian Blood (CDIB) card
Social security card
State certified birth certificate
Current verification of income
Head Start and Early Head Start implement American Indian heritage, Cherokee culture and Cherokee language, and provide services in the areas of education, physical fitness, medical and dental, health, nutrition and social development, with an emphasis for children with special needs.
Cherokee Nation Head Starts are located in the following areas:
Cherry Tree (Early Head Start only)
Jay (Early Head Start only)
Stilwell (also has Early Head Start)
Pryor (also has Early Head Start)
Salina (also has Early Head Start)
Nowata (also has Early Head Start)

The Cherokee Nation Immersion School is also currently accepting applications for 3- and 4-year-olds until classes are full. Students must be 3 or 4 years old by September 1. Applications for seventh and eighth graders are also being accepted. Contact Toni Workman at (918) 207-4900 or firstname.lastname@example.org for an application.
To apply for admission to the Cherokee Nation Child Development Centers in Tahlequah and Stilwell, parents must apply at the center. All applicants will be put on a waiting list. For more information call the Tahlequah center at (918) 453-5070 or the Stilwell center at (918) 696-3222.
