ELIGIBILITY REQUIREMENTS - Applicant must be a member of the Cherokee Nation.
- Applicant must reside within the jurisdictional boundaries of the Cherokee Nation.
- In order to comply with Motor Vehicle Rules and Regulations [MV: 01-3-306; 7;a] Beginning March 3, 2008- All previously registered vehicles entering the reservation boundaries must be physically inspected (VIN INSPECTION) before an original Cherokee Nation Title may be issued.
ITEMS REQUIRED TO REGISTER VEHICLES - MSO or Title
- MSO, must be signed by dealership. Must be notarized unless vehicle was purchased from a non notary state.
- TITLE, must be signed by seller. Must be notarized unless vehicle was purchased from a non notary state.
- ODOMETER DISCLOSURE
- Vehicles that are 10 years old and less will require an odometer reading.
- Most titles have an odometer disclosure statement as part of the assignment.
- This must be completed, unless title or MSO is accompanied with an odometer disclosure statement.
- BILL OF SALE
- INSURANCE VERIFICATION
- Oklahoma insurance verification required with all transfers.
Insurance verifications shall contain the following; - Name and address of carrier.
- Name and address of where security verification may be verified, if other than carrier.
- Name of insured.
- Year and make and at leas last three digits of the VIN of each insured vehicle.
- Effective Dates
- A Warning to the vehicle owner about the state law requiring that one copy of the verification form be surrendered on registration and one copy be carried in the vehicle. “ Oklahoma Law”.
- DRIVERS LICENSE
- A valid drivers license is necessary to register a vehicle through Cherokee Nation.
- TRIBAL MEMBERSHIP (BLUE CARD)
- PROOF OF RESIDENCE
- Utility bill (Water, Gas, or Electric)
- Current physical address on Driver License.
- LIEN INFORMATION
- If lien information has already been perfected on MSO or title this information will be stamped on the face of the title.
- In the case that the lien has not been perfected. The lien information must be documented on the back of the title and a Cherokee Nation Lien Entry Form must be typed and signed by the lending institution and presented along with the title or MSO.

- Renewals may be done by mail, unless in penalty.
- Renewal may be done in person at anytime after the first of the month of expiration.
- Current Oklahoma insurance verification required.
Protecting Yourself After A Sale - If you have sold a vehicle, one of the most important things you can do is submit a Notice of Transfer of Ownership of A Vehicle .
- While it is the responsibility of the buyer to apply for a title after purchasing your vehicle, they may not do this. You may end up receiving registration renewal notices, and other correspondence that no longer applies to you.
- While the buyer has up to 30 days to file for a title, you can immediately file the Notice of Transfer of Ownership of A Vehicle, giving you a little more peace of mind in the event that the buyer fails to title the vehicle.
