The Cherokee Nation Election Commission officially invites a delegate from the Democracy Program to monitor the 1999 Cherokee Nation Election. The election is to be held on Saturday, May 22, 1999.

The Carter Center's stated goal of "building strong democracies" falls directly in line with the philosophy of the Commission. The Commission's prime directive is to provide the Cherokee people a fair election that is above reproach. The Cherokee Nation Election Commission welcomes any assistance that the Center may be able to contribute in reaching this objective.
