Seven clans of the Cherokee will be
celebrated at the Cherokee National Holiday
Labor Day Weekend, August 31 through September 2, 2001

"Celebrating the Seven Clans" is the theme of the 49th Cherokee National Holiday, which is expected to bring more than 80,000 visitors and Cherokees to Tahlequah Labor Day weekend. The annual holiday commemorates the signing of the Cherokee Nation Constitution of Sept. 6, 1839.

The seven clans are Bird, Paint, Deer, Wolf, Blue, Long Hair and Wild Potato. In celebrating the clans, visitors may witness or participate in a variety of events ranging from the tradition-based to the modern and evolving.
