Cherokee Nation Reminds Public to Drive Safely

Highway safety is a concern to everyone and with the winter season upon us taking the time to slow down and drive safely is more important than ever. With this in mind, Cherokee Nation Marshal Service (CNMS) is joining the Oklahoma Highway Patrol (OHP) to remind our citizens and neighbors to drive safely.

Cherokee Casinos collecting coats for children and the elderly this winter
November 21, 2008
Cherokee Casinos Tahlequah and Fort Gibson are pitching in to help keep people warm this winter. Both casinos are appealing to the community to bring new and slightly used jackets and coats in children’s and adult sizes to the casinos for the “Out with the old, in with the new” coat drive taking place through December. The casinos are hoping to collect a jacket or coat to keep every child and elder from two very special Cherokee Nation programs warm this winter.

Cherokee Nation Providing Home Energy Assistance

The Cherokee Nation is again providing funding through the Low Income Home Energy Assistance Program (LIHEAP) for eligible Cherokees and other Native Americans this winter.

The Legislative Branch consists of the 15-member Tribal Council elected to represent nine districts of the Cherokee Nation. The Tribal Council initiates legislation and conducts other business which will further the interests of the Cherokee Nation and its membership. The other business which will further the interests of the Cherokee Nation and its membership. The Deputy Chief presides over the Council as its president. Tribal Council terms are four years.
