| Using the Cherokee Font The Cherokee language is a language separate from English. For example, using the Roman alphabet to write the language, you would write we-sa to pronounce the Cherokee word for ‘cat.’ Using the Cherokee font, you can type it in the Cherokee syllabary. The Cherokee character for the syllable ‘we’ is produced when typing the ‘p’ key and the character for the syllable ‘sa’ is produced when typing the ‘A’ key.
When downloading the Cherokee font, please also print out the chart for the Cherokee Font Keystrokes. This will show you which keys on your keyboard to use to produce the Cherokee syllables you desire.
The Cherokee font is not a translator, but simply a typeface producing the Cherokee syllabary on your computer. The proper Cherokee words are not produced unless you use the appropriate keys to obtain the syllable desired.
Here are some examples:
| English | Cherokee (Roman alphabet) | Cherokee Syllabary | Keystrokes |
| Hello | o-si-yo | | oRY |
| Hill | ga-du-si | | gjR |
| Paper | go-we-li | | qpl |
| How are you? | do-hi-tsu | | 4h# |
|
| Don't forget the Keyboard Map... Print it out for your reference. |
