Digohweli (Cherokee Unicode Font)
The Digohweli Cherokee Unicode font was designed to be an easy-to-read, all-purpose font which can be used for running text in books, magazines, and websites. It is also effective as a display type. Its clean lines, straight forward look, and lack of extravagent flourish make Digohweli a good choice for representing the Cherokee language. The form of the DO syllabic character is the modern “V” shape.
You will need this font in order to take the Cherokee Online Language Class post test, as well as read articles at http://cherokeephoenix.org which have Cherokee translations. |
To download and install a new font
- Click here to download font file, and then follow the instructions in the File Download dialog boxes to complete the download to your hard disk drive.
You may also want to make note of where you've saved the download to, so that you can easily navigate to it when you install the font through the operating system.
- Add the font to your computer through the operating system.
If you are using Microsoft Windows 7
- Navigate to the location where you saved the downloaded or unzipped font.
- Right-click the font you want to install and click Install.
If you are using Microsoft Windows Vista
- On the Start menu, click Control Panel.
- In the Control Panel, double-click Fonts.
- On the File menu, click Install New Font. Note: If you don’t see the File menu, hold down then ALT key.
- Navigate to the location where you saved the downloaded or unzipped font, and, in the List of Fonts box, click the font you want to add
- Click OK.
If you are using Microsoft Windows XP
- On the Start menu, click Control Panel.
- In the Control Panel, double-click Fonts.
- On the File menu, click Install New Font.
- Navigate to the location where you saved the downloaded or unzipped font, and, in the List of Fonts box, click the font you want to add
- Click OK.
If you are using Apple Mac OS X
- Navigate to the location where you saved the downloaded or unzipped font.
- Double-click the font you want to install and click Install Font.
If you are using a different operating system, look up fonts in Help for your operating system.
In the event that you are needing the anitiquated True Type font to open legacy documents, it may be obtained from http://www.cherokee.org/Culture/CherokeeTrueTypeFont/Downloads.aspx.
The Unicode version of the Cherokee font will be promoted for standard use and for Cherokee Nation documents. It will also be used in the language curriculum. It is now available for download and is free to use and share with others.
