Language Lesson 3 of 3
Cherokee Nation has introduced a language curriculum for
use in schools. For the next few weeks, we will be presenting
some of the lessons from this program. The material does not
cover reading and writing in the Cherokee syllabary, but the
pronunciation of the words using the Roman alphabet.

LESSON THREE
I. Thank you (wa-do)
II. MATERIALS: Colorsheets, crayons, scissors, glue
III. PROCEDURE:
- Instructor will say the words "thank you" orally to the student.
- Explain to students they will be learning the word, "thank you" (wa-do)
- Teacher prompts the students to respond orally.
IV. ACTIVITIES:
Flash cards, flip chart, colorsheets, matching English to Cherokee words.
V. ENRICHMENT:
- Role Playing: Have students use the words with one another by exchanging items and sayhing (wa-do) in place of "thank you".
- Daily Review: Replace "thank you" with "wa-do" in everyday class activities.
- Rentention Exercise: Use words to learn lesson to observe how many words a student can remember from day to day.
