Cherokee Byways
The Cherokee Hills Byway features a variety of attractions ranging from recreational and cultural to historical and natural with a range of locations along the route. Highlights of the drive include Lake Tenkiller and the Illinois River that are carved out by blue grey flint stone, encased by towering bluffs and lined by some of the most picturesque foliage in Oklahoma.
Cherokee Heritage Center
The Heritage Center includes outdoor museums and indoor exhibit galleries. It sponsors many educational programs throughout the year as well as scholarly research that stimulates interest in the enduring legacy of the Cherokee people.
Tahlequah: The Cherokee Capital
Tahlequah is a beautiful little city; a jewel nestled in the Cookson Hills between the Illinois River, Fort Gibson Lake and Lake Tenkiller in northeastern Oklahoma.
